    Congratulations to NCCU Alumni Association (Durham Chapter) chapter member Dr. Jim C. Harper, II—a proud alumnus and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at NCCU—on being selected for the prestigious Fulbright U.S. International Education Administrators Award (France and Senegal) for the 2025-2026 academic year!

    Dr. Harper, a dedicated scholar, Marine Corps veteran, and educator, continues to inspire through his research and leadership. Help us celebrate this incredible achievement!

    Join us in congratulating our NCCU Alumni Association (Durham Chapter) member Alumna Nakia Harrington Hester who won the Duke Health's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award  This award recognizes Duke faculty and staff who embody Dr. King's vision of "It starts with me".

    This award honors those who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to a non-profit's mission in keeping with the principles of Dr. King.

    Thank You Nakia for your dedication and 'Truth and Service' to our chapter!

    We would also like to thank Duke Health for their donation to our Scholarship Fund!!

    Alumna Esther Glenn Named Durham Public Schools 2024 Media Coordinator of the Year

    Alumna Glenn started her career in education upon graduation from the NCCU School of Education with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 2007.  Although it has not been an easy path, she was reminded Saturday that Eagles are no ordinary birds.  She stayed the course of truth & service, earned her MLIS degree from UNCG in 2020, and now serve as the school librarian at R.N. Harris Elementary School.

    NCCU honored the legacy of former Chancellor Debra Saunders-White by renaming Angus McLean Hall to Debra Saunders-White Residence Hall in her memory. Dr. Saunders-White led North Carolina Central University from 2013 until her untimely passing in 2016, profoundly impacting our community and students.

    Congratulations to Alumna & Durham Chapter member Sue Jarmon on your retirement!!!  Mrs. Jarmon retired from White Rock MBC where she was the Church Clerk and Office Administrator. Alumna Jarmon is a member of the Special Occasions and Events Ministry.

    Congratulations to our chapter member, Alumna Turquoise Parker on winning the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award.  President Biden honored 40 outstanding community leaders, including Turquoise Parker from Lakewood Elementary, with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and medallion, recognizing their exceptional leadership and volunteer contributions.

    Join us in wishing Dr. Lucas a Happy Belated Birthday!



    Durham Chapter Centennial Eagle Alumnus Dr. John H. Lucas, Jr is 103 years bold.  A  few facts about Alumnus Dr. Lucas, Jr.:

     He was the former Principal of Hillside High School, (1962-1986). 

     From 1986 to 1987, he served as President of Shaw University.

     He is a World War II veteran.

     Dr. Lucas served on the Durham City School Board and Vice Chair of the Durham Public Schools Board of Education.
